Team Falcons Boss: We Want the Filipino on Top of the World
The world’s most formidable esports team—if winning the EWC Championship by a landslide means anything—wants the Filipino on top of the world.
Team Falcons Global Esports Director Grant Rosseau did not mince words when he said they came to the Philippines because it has the greatest players in the world.
“We’re investing in the Philippines because it has the best players. They belong on top,” Rosseau told ALL-STAR.
“For us, coming to the Philippines is about having our Filipino team on top of the world: winning world championships, winning all the international tournaments, whether it’s the EWC or MSC, whatever it is,” Rosseau added.
And he didn’t flinch.
“From an in-game perspective, the biggest investment is in our coaches,” Rosseau says, underscoring the leadership role of coaches in building winning teams. “The coach is the leader of the team. They make roster decisions and work closely with us to shape the present and future of the team. It’s our job to back the coach.”
But that’s one part of their two-pronged approach to championships. The other half is about performance direction and philosophy.
Team Falcons has got winning down to a science. The organization aims to empower its Filipino players with unparalleled resources and support, blending top-tier coaching, cutting-edge performance philosophy, and a vision centered on excellence. All of these are hinged on world-renowned sports psychologist and director of performance at Team Falcons, Lars Robl.
“From an out-of-game perspective, we have a gentleman named Lars Robl, who works at Team Falcons as our performance director,” Rosseau told ALL-STAR.
“He’s built a top-to-bottom performance philosophy that we live by across all our teams, and we are looking to bring that to our new Filipino team as well. But it is very bespoke for different teams. There’s going to be some learning points to hear about, like what’s different in the Filipino culture and what works for them.”
“Every one percent matters.”
At the heart of the Falcons’ ethos is a powerful mantra: “Every one percent matters.” In a hyper-competitive landscape like esports, where skill levels are razor-close, it’s the smallest edges that separate champions from the rest.
“That one percent could be anything—how you practice, how you behave as a team, or even your nutrition,” Rosseau shares. “Lars was brought in to maximize these marginal gains, and that philosophy has been instrumental in our success.”
That success is evident in Team Falcons’ performance at the Esports World Cup (EWC), where they emerged as top performers. Rosseau credits their achievements to the foundational work of scouting and building teams, combined with Robl’s ability to elevate their performance to the next level. “When you’re working with a new team, you’re looking for those 10 to 20 percent improvements,” Rosseau says. “That’s what Lars brings to the table, and it’s what makes Team Falcons special.”
As Team Falcons ventures into the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Philippines, their ambitions are crystal clear. “For Falcons, it’s about being the number one competitive team while remaining performance-focused,” Rosseau emphasizes. “Coming to the Philippines is about having our Filipino team on top of the world: winning world championships, and dominating international tournaments like the EWC and MSC.”
Rosseau’s passion for Filipino esports is palpable, and his confidence in the local talent is unwavering. “Filipino fans deserve to see their players not just compete locally but shine globally,” he says. “We’re investing in the Philippines because it has the best players. They belong on top.”
