UST Big Man Collins Akowe Joins adidas
Collins Akowe, the 6-foot-10 center powering the UST Growling Tigers’ resurgence in UAAP Season 88, has officially signed with adidas Philippines. The move marks another step forward for both the young big man and the brand, strengthening adidas’ growing presence in collegiate basketball.
Diego Dario, sports marketing consultant for adidas Philippines, confirmed the signing and praised Akowe’s fit within the company’s athlete roster.
“Collins is another solid addition to the adidas family. UST is a growing program and he is definitely the future anchor for them in the UAAP,” Dario said. “He’s been wearing adidas since he was in Nigeria and even in high school with NU. That shows us his loyalty and love for the brand which is huge and very important for team adidas.”

Akowe’s connection to the three stripes runs deep. Even before moving to the Philippines, he was already lacing up adidas sneakers during his basketball days in Nigeria. His consistency continued through his time with NU Nazareth School, and now with the UST Growling Tigers, where he has been spotted wearing the Harden Vol. 9 and AE 2 throughout the ongoing UAAP season.
The signing comes as Akowe continues to make headlines in his debut year with UST. He has delivered multiple standout performances, including a 29-point, 17-rebound outing against defending champions UP in his first UAAP game, and a grueling 51-minute effort in a triple-overtime win versus Ateneo. His energy, rebounding, and interior presence have made him one of the most talked-about rookies in the league.

For adidas, Akowe represents not just a high-performing athlete but a personality aligned with the brand’s long-term vision in Philippine basketball. His blend of loyalty, discipline, and potential makes him an ideal representative of the next generation of talent.
As UST continues to rebuild under coach Pido Jarencio, Akowe’s growth both on the court and as a new member of the Adidas family signals a promising future.
