Jaime Gómez de Liaño: The Youngest Flame

Being part of one of Philippine basketball’s most famous families could be a heavy load for some, but Jaime Gómez de Liaño carries it with lightness and quiet confidence.

The first-year power forward out of UP Integrated School, now playing for the San Sebastian Golden Stags, doesn’t see the “GDL” name as pressure — he sees it as purpose.

“My brothers helped me find my love for basketball,” he says. “They’re my biggest influences.” And it shows — the poise, the discipline, the humility all line up with the family trademark, even as Jaime’s carving out his own chapter.

At just 18, he’s already represented the country on a global stage as part of Gilas Pilipinas U17 — a moment he calls his proudest so far. But for all his achievements, Jaime’s still refreshingly grounded.

His pregame ritual? Scrolling through TikTok and saying a prayer.

His off-court style? Comfy, cool, and never forced.

His energy? Calm, kind, and quietly confident — the kind that makes people feel at ease around him.

He’s not in a rush to prove himself — he’s here to grow, both as a player and a person. And that kind of slow-build focus? It’s what makes him one to watch, on and off the court.
