The Return of the King: LeBron is Back!

The King has returned. LeBron James is playing NBA basketball again, and the Los Angeles Lakers are actually winning.

After missing the Lakers’ first 14 games this season due to a sciatica irritation, he is finally back to the line-up this week. In his first 3 games of the season, he is already averaging 18 points, 9 assists, and 5 rebounds–in his 23rd season, no less.

The Los Angeles Lakers are tied with the Denver Nuggets at the #2 spots in the Western Conference. In a very competitive conference, this is quite the achievement, thanks in no small part to Luka Doncic, who is the Lakers’ best player and who is putting up crazy MVP numbers, and Austin Reaves, who is playing at an all-star level. Despite their struggles statistically, the Lakers have a pretty awesome cast of supporting characters who do things that do not necessarily translate into the stat sheet.

An example: oddly enough, the Lakers are shooting horribly from the three-point line with a measly (.339), one of the league’s worst. Despite this, they have been winning, and the return of LeBron James and his gravity would give more space to the Los Angeles shooters, so expect their three-point percentage to go up.

LeBron is also expected to handle playmaking duties, as he is still a threat from inside and out, and he definitely is a willing passer. However, as some pundits would say, he may have lost a bit of his defensive prowess, but that is why they got Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia for.

Seeing LeBron win despite his age would be a spectacular sight. The question right now is–how long can the Lakers stay competitive?
