Tabuena Honored After Historic International Series Win
Philippine golf star Miguel Tabuena returned to Manila this week to celebrate a milestone in his decorated career, as ArenaPlus hosted the Swing Above The Odds: Miguel Tabuena Victory Night to honor his historic triumph at the International Series Philippines.
The private event, held on November 27 at the Michelin-selected Uma Nota Manila in Taguig, gathered Tabuena’s family, friends, media partners, and stakeholders from the Philippine sports community. Tabuena made history on October 26 when he became the first Filipino champion of the International Series Philippines, winning at the Sta. Elena Golf and Country Club in Laguna.
The evening opened with a tribute video featuring congratulatory messages from Tabuena’s close circle, as well as well-wishes from officials of the Asian Tour and International Series. Organizers also injected lighthearted moments, including a “pick or pass” segment where Tabuena responded to rapid-fire statements on golf habits, from playing with brand-new clubs to pre- and post-round ice baths.

One of the night’s highlights was ArenaPlus’ formal awarding of 2.5 million pesos to Tabuena in recognition of his breakthrough win and for “swinging above the odds” in the International Series.
A media Q&A followed, with Tabuena and ArenaPlus representative Ms. Celeste addressing questions on future tournaments, brand partnerships, and the company’s broader commitment to uplifting Filipino athletes.
“At ArenaPlus, it’s natural for us to support the nation’s sports scene,” Celeste said. “We’ve started at the foundation level but have grown to support institutions like the Philippine Sports Commission and major events such as the International Series Philippines. Our goal is to develop top emerging athletes by providing proper resources and support.”
Asked how this victory compared with his previous titles, Tabuena emphasized both the emotional weight and the pressure of winning on home soil.

“Every International Series is special, but this one was difficult because of the expectations,” he said. “Thank God I was able to pull it off in front of my friends, family, my wife, and daughter. Seeing them on the 18th green and sharing that moment is something I’ll cherish forever.”
The program was hosted by veteran broadcaster Boom Gonzalez, who hailed Tabuena as a “true pride of the Philippines.” Guests also enjoyed live entertainment, including a saxophone performance during dinner, a set by DJ Abdel Aziz, and a surprise appearance by Concert King Martin Nievera, who joined Tabuena onstage for a rendition of “I’ll Be There.” ArenaPlus also raffled off prizes during the Lucky Tee Draw for attendees.

Tabuena closed the evening with gratitude for the support behind his record-setting run.
“It takes a village to accomplish something,” he said. “What I did took so much out of me, and I wouldn’t have been able to do it without all of you. Thank you to ArenaPlus for hosting this celebration. This feels like the true beginning.”
