Jaylen Brown: The Shamrock Fire
With Jayson Tatum still out with no clear timetable for return, Jaylen Brown has grabbed the shamrock and run with it, powering Boston like a true franchise cornerstone.
Jaylen Brown is him. His toughness, relentless drives, and clutch scoring are keeping the Celtics’ banner hopes flying high.
The Celtics organization still has no definitive and clear timetable for Jayson Tatum’s return, even if recent social media posts show Tatum already doing one-on-one drills with the Celtics coaching staff.
Other teams would have done terribly without their best players (ehem, Pacers without Hali), but not the Celtics. They are currently 15-9, with a 5-game winning streak.
All that is because of Jaylen Brown.
This is his rank across stats within the team:
1st in points – 30 points per game
2nd in rebounds – 6 rebounds per game
3rd in assists – 5 assists per game
3rd in steals – 1 steal per game
Brown does a little bit (actually, a lot of) everything considering the name on his jersey isn’t spelled Tatum, and he is the C’s number one scoring option.
It is impressive to see Boston competing for playoff contention without key players from last season (Tatum and defensive stalwart Jrue Holiday). Credit must also be given to role players and how they have been producing–Derrick White, Payton Pritchard, and Anfernee Simons who help with the scoring load; particularly Derrick White who is an outstanding two-way guard. Neemias Queta has also been a reliable big man.
The questions now are these: when will Tatum return to the court, and will the Celtics stay competitive even if Tatum doesn’t? They sure would, as long as Jaylen Brown is him.
