Anthony Edwards is the Alpha-Wolf
Within the Minnesota Timberwolves, Anthony Edwards is the alpha-wolf. Is he ready for a title run? Do the Wolves have what it takes to get out of the uber competitive Western conference?
The son of Michael Jordan. Jordan Junior. Ant-Man.
Ant has been getting all sorts of fancy nicknames for years now. Is he all that?
Numbers do not lie. Here is his stat line this season: 29 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, a steal, and a block. It does not necessarily look like MVP numbers given the Shais and the Wembys and the Lukas of the league, but the impact it has on the team should be considered, at the very least. He has been dropping 40-point games like Prime Kobe Bryant.
The Wolves are 5th in the Western conference, and Anthony Edwards has a lot to do with their wins. He has been clutch in the 4th quarter, which earned him the MJ comparisons in the first place. Coach Finch usually rests him during the first few minutes of the 4th quarter so he can turn it up in the moments that matter.
The team is well-coached, but do they have the personnel to get them over the hump? Right now, they have Rudy Gobert, the stifle tower who has been very efficient, and Julius Randle, the former Knick who is the team’s number 2 option. The Wolves also have promising young players in Jaden McDaniels and Naz Reid.
They seem to be 1-2 good players short if they want to stay competitive in the Western conference. In the most recent game against the Nuggets, Ant-Man dropped 44 points on Jokic, yet they still lost. Two weeks ago, he also dropped 40 against the lowly Phoenix Suns, and they also lost.
The Timberwolves are certainly competitive, but if they want to get out of the Western conference come post-season time, they would have to get Ant-Man some help. For now, Anthony Edwards is the alpha-wolf that the Wolves need.
