Daily Fantasy Week 27: The First Round

The Playoffs have already begun, and some teams are performing better than expected. Who is coming out of the first round of the NBA Playoffs?

Match 1: The Portland Trailblazers vs the San Antonio Spurs (Game 2, April 22, Wednesday)

Victor Wembanyama has been unstoppable for the entirety of game 1. The play where he still converts a turn-around hook shot despite being doubled by Donovan Clingan and Deni Avdija in the paint encapsulates this match-up–Portland can try whatever they like, and Wemby is still going to dominate. At one point, the Spurs’ lead was whittled down to just two points in the third quarter, but the Blazers were not able to capitalize. Deni Avdija was brilliant, but he needs more help from Scoot Henderson and Jerami Grant if they want to steal a game.

Suggested Daily Fantasy lineup:

Captain: Victor Wembanyama

Vice Captain: Deni Avdija

Key picks: De’Aaron Fox, Stephon Castle, Scoot Henderson, Dylan Harper. Devin Vassell

Match 2: The Houston Rockets vs the Los Angeles Lakers (Game 2, April 22, Wednesday)

The Lakers just stole game 1 from the Houston Rockets. Kevin Durant did not play, and that hurt the Rockets’ offense. Houston has been plagued by injuries all year–Fred Van Vleet, who is their primary playmaker, Steven Adams, a brick wall who consistently gets rebounds and blocks shots, and now, KD with a knee injury. Deandre Ayton played well, and Sengun seemed to have struggled at times. KD’s injury status is still game day, and the Rockets fans are hoping that he makes it in time, just like how Lakers’ fans are hoping for a miracle with Luka Doncic.

Suggested Daily Fantasy lineup:

Captain: LeBron James

Vice Captain: Deandre Ayton

Key picks: Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson, Marcus Smart, Reed Sheppard, Luke Kennard

Match 3: The Orlando Magic vs the Detroit Pistons (Game 2, April 23, Thursday)

Cade Cunningham was brilliant, but the Pistons still lost to the 8th seed Magic, who got the 8th seed via the play-in tournament. The Pistons have to provide Cade with more help–better shooting, and better defence. Jalen Duren, who had been great all season, was -21 during this game. The Magic simply shot better, and Detroit has to defend better in the coming game. They have to figure out how to stop the twin towers–Paolo Banchero and Franz Wagner, or they are going to lose the second game.

Suggested Daily Fantasy lineup:

Captain: Cade Cunningham

Vice Captain: Paolo Banchero

Key picks: Franz Wagner, Tobias Harris, Jalen Suggs, Wendell Carter Jr., Jalen Duren

Match 4: The Phoenix Suns vs the Oklahoma City Thunder (Game 2, April 23, Thursday)

The Phoenix Suns did their best, but they are just not anywhere near the vicinity of where OKC Thunder is with respect to roster talent and depth. Once the Thunder starters broke away, the bench came in and sealed the deal–a blow out that is going to be the outcome of all four games. Kudos to Devin Booker, Dillon Brooks, Jalen Green, and Osho Ighodaro for trying and playing hard, but when the team you’re up against has third stringers who could very well be starters of other inferior teams, life is going to be hard. It would be surprising if this series is not a sweep.

Suggested Daily Fantasy lineup:

Captain: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander

Vice Captain: Devin Booker

Key picks: Dillon Brooks, Jalen Williams, Chet Holmgren, Jalen Green, Jaylin Williams
