Fantasy Series #5: The Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons have been brilliant for stretches during the regular season, but have struggled during the playoffs. What can they do to help Cade carry the load?

The Fantasy series looks at the featured team’s season statistical performance and explores offseason possibilities.

2025-2026 Key Season Stats

Cade Cunningham – 24 points per game, 5.5 rebounds per game, 10 assists per game

Jalen Duren – 19.5 points per game, 10.5 rebounds per game

Ausar Thompson – 2 steals per game

The Detroit Pistons have made the playoffs in the past 2 seasons–didn’t make it out of the first round last year, and lost to the Cleveland Cavaliers in 7 games this year.

Detroit has an elite talent in Cade Cunningham, their number one player who can score and make plays. Jalen Duren has been a great number two option for most of last season, but has been criticized for “disappearing” in playoff games. Ausar Thompson is a reliable defensive wing who gets 2 steals per game. Aside from Duren’s playoff woes, the Pistons seem to be just a few minor roster adjustments away from a deep playoff run.

The offseason has been the craziest one in years as franchise players have been traded like marbles. The Pistons have made some big moves in their own way.

Tobias Harris (13.3 points per game), a trusty shooter and veteran, has now left for the San Antonio Spurs. Isaiah Stewart (10 points, 5 rebounds, 1.6 blocks per game), a 6th man of the year candidate, has been traded to the Memphis Grizzlies. Back-up guards Caris LeVert and Marcus Sasser have departed the team as well.

The Pistons have acquired big man John Collins, who is an amazing pick-and-roll man. They have also added former Oklahoma Thunder sniper Isaiah Joe (40% from the arc), who could potentially be an excellent fit alongside Cade Cunningham and Ausar Thompson. Veterans Gary Harris and Taurean Prince have also been added to the roster. Cade, Duren, Collins, Thompson, and shooter Duncan Robinson could be the starting five.

They seem to look better now–the team added shooters and veteran players. Can these moves be enough to get them to the Eastern Conference Finals, at the very least?
