Fantasy Series #9: The Philadelphia 76ers
Arguably, the Philadelphia 76ers have the best starting five on paper. Will having this top-heavy roster translate to wins, and playoff success?
The Fantasy series looks at the featured team’s season statistical performance and explores offseason possibilities.
2025-2026 Key Season Stats
Tyrese Maxey – 28.3 points per game, 4.1 rebounds per game, 6.6 assists per game
VJ Edgecombe – 16.0 points per game, 5.6 rebounds per game, 4.2 assists per game
Joel Embiid – 27 points per game, 7.7 rebounds per game, 3.6 assists per game
LeBron James – 21 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game, 7.2 assists per game
Jaylen Brown – 28.7 points per game, 7 rebounds per game, 5.1 assists per game
The Philadelphia 76ers have a heck of a starting line-up, to the extent that pundits and fans are already setting them up as a “champions or bust” kind of team.
The starting players are 20+ ppg kind of players, and all of them can score and create their own shots. That fact should put some fear into the hearts of defenses, but that’s easier said than done.
Interestingly, the Sixers do not face a western conference team until their 18th game this season, which gives their loaded core a lot of time to settle and get used to playing with each other.
Assuming they all could stay healthy and qualify for the playoffs, the pressure only gets higher as LeBron, Jaylen Brown, and Joel Embiid all have extensive playoff experience.
Even with a lot of firepower, there seem to be some issues already present.
Last year, Tyrese Maxey established himself as the team’s top dog, given that Joel Embiid has been gone for much of the season. Is this team still his team? Would he get a dip in scoring and touches?
VJ Edgecombe was a rookie of the year candidate, and was at the top of the rookie ladder consistently. Will his development be stifled now that there are a lot of competent ball handlers and scorers in the team?
Can Jaylen Brown have other roles than being a spot and shoot type of player? Can he actually have a more significant role? This is something to watch out for, given that his reason for leaving the Celtics was to have his “own” team, although he expressed in interviews that he welcomes the mentorship of LeBron James.
This season is exciting for the Sixers. A lot of pressure? Yes. But exciting.
