Fantasy Series #10: The Oklahoma City Thunder
The Oklahoma City Thunder have failed in their quest to win back-to-back championships. What kind of season awaits them?
The Fantasy series looks at the featured team’s season statistical performance and explores offseason possibilities.
2025-2026 Key Season Stats
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander – 31.1 points per game, 4.3 rebounds per game, 6.6 assists per game, 1.4 steals per game
Chet Holmgren – 17.1 points per game, 8.9 rebounds per game, 1.9 blocks per game
Jalen Williams – 17.1 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game, 5.5 assists per game
The Oklahoma City Thunder just fell short of having back-to-back NBA Finals appearances. They were defeated by the young and mighty San Antonio Spurs. During the series, the OKC snipers were hot, Isaiah Hartenstein did his best he could to body Wembanyama, and Chet Holmgren disappeared in the big moments. Jalen Williams got hurt, and there was no one to help the league MVP, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
During the offseason, the Thunder had some changes in their overly stacked roster to avoid the dreaded second apron. Some key pieces who were part of the Thunder’s identity, such as Luguentz Dort and Isaiah Joe, have already left the team. Aaron Wiggins has also left the team. And yet, the Thunder is still perhaps in possession of the league’s deepest roster.
SGA, J-Dub, and Chet make up the young core. Alex Caruso is the wily veteran who plays defense. Hartenstein did relatively okay against Wembanyama, and every team who wants to compete for a ring next season has to have a Wemby-guy. Sharpshooters Ajay Mitchell, Cason Wallace, and Jared McCain are still all with the team. The 2026 draft also yielded big man rookie Aday Mara, a 7’2” center from Michigan who is hyped to be another one who could help contain Wembanyama.
Barring any injuries, the Thunder are primed for another deep playoff run. Have they done enough this postseason to be the best western conference team?
