The aftermath of perhaps the most ridiculous trade in NBA history saw the Dallas Mavericks draft Cooper Flagg–a long, lanky talented wing player who is a franchise-cornerstone material. What a lucky break after fumbling the Luka Doncic situation.
Now that Cooper Flagg has won the rookie of the year in a class that’s not totally bad (Dylan Harper, Kon Knueppel, VJ Edgecombe), what can the Dallas Mavericks look forward to this coming season?
A lot of things, apparently.
First, gone are the days of Nico Harrison–Dallas’ public enemy number one. Cool dude Masai Ujiri is now the Dallas Mavericks team president. Dusty May, a titled NCAA coach, helms the coaching staff.
But perhaps, Kyrie Irving’s expected return could be a huge factor this season, as the team anticipates Flagg’s growth. Kyrie could definitely help with ball-handling duties, and could give Cooper Flagg some space to operate freely.
The addition of another number one pick Zaccharie Risacher from the Atlanta Hawks provides added size, youth, and talent. Risacher has been underachieving in the previous years, and hopefully, this new environment with Cooper Flagg and Kyrie Irving gives him the fresh start he sorely needs.
Things are definitely interesting in Dallas next season.
