SIBOL MLBB Hunts Historic Asian Games Gold to Extend PH’s Golden Run

Over the years, the Philippines has lived up to its reputation in Mobile Legends: Bang Bang as the Home of the Strongest, or as the famous tagline puts it, “Tahanan ng Pinakamalakas,” by producing some of the world’s most accomplished players and winning numerous international titles.

Now, SIBOL has a chance to take that legacy somewhere it has never been before.

MLBB makes its debut as an official medal event at the 20th Asian Games Aichi-Nagoya 2026, and the Philippines enters the historic competition with one clear objective: bring home the first-ever Asian Games gold medal in the game.

The Golden Run Reaches a New Stage
The mission is familiar, perhaps even second nature by now. The stage, however, is bigger, with more unfamiliar opponents standing in the way.

Since MLBB made its Southeast Asian Games debut on home soil in 2019, the Philippines has yet to relinquish its place atop the regional throne.

SIBOL captured the inaugural SEA Games gold medal in a thrilling 3-2 victory over Indonesia in Manila, laying the foundation for what would become a remarkable “Golden Run”.

Two years later, the Philippines defended its title in Vietnam, defeating Indonesia, 3-1, with a Blacklist International-led squad featuring Johnmar “OhMyV33nus” Villaluna.

The Philippines then turned in a dominant performance at the 2023 SEA Games in Cambodia, sweeping Malaysia, 3-0, in the finals to claim its third consecutive gold.

The run continued in Thailand in 2025, where the Philippines once again overwhelmed Malaysia, this time cruising to a 4-0 sweep in the finals.

Four SEA Games. Four gold medals.

Now, SIBOL wants to add an even more historic chapter in Japan.

With MLBB finally joining the Asian Games medal program, the Philippines has the opportunity to become the first-ever Asian Games champion in the title and extend a legacy that has made the country synonymous with competitive MLBB.

Gold Remains the Only Target
But with that legacy comes enormous expectations.

“Gold,” SIBOL head coach Allec “SN4P” Alvarado said firmly when asked about the team’s target.

For Alvarado, however, ambition does not come from arrogance. It comes from understanding the standards that come with representing a country that has established itself as one of the world’s premier MLBB nations.

“There’s always going to be pressure, especially when people have high expectations of you. Being on top has all these expectations. We just have to stay grounded in our values and focus on our daily progress,” he said.

Fortunately for SIBOL, it is not entering this historic campaign without experience.

The Philippine squad is stacked with players who have repeatedly performed under the brightest lights of the game.

A Squad Built for Greatness
At the center of it all is Karl “KarlTzy” Nepomuceno, one of the most decorated and recognizable players in MLBB history.

Known for his aggressive approach, sharp instincts, and ability to deliver in high-pressure situations, KarlTzy leads SIBOL’s bid for the country’s first Asian Games MLBB gold.

He will have plenty of firepower around him.

His Team Liquid PH teammates Sanford “Sanford” Vinuya, Alston “Sanji” Pabico, Dave “Teddy” Viana, and Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz form the backbone of the squad, while ONIC Indonesia import star Duane “Kelra” Pillas adds another proven match-winner to the lineup.

Together, the roster brings a wealth of experience from the MPL Philippines stage and international competition — exactly the kind of experience SIBOL will need with history on the line.

Uncharted Waters
Still, the Philippines’ opening day presents an unfamiliar challenge.

SIBOL begins its Group C campaign against Jordan at 2 p.m. on Tuesday before facing Kazakhstan at 5 p.m. at Aichi Sky Expo.

Neither opponent carries the familiarity of the Southeast Asian teams the Philippines has repeatedly faced over the years, introducing another layer of uncertainty to SIBOL’s first day of competition.

“Against Jordan and Kazakhstan, there could be new heroes that fit the meta, unfamiliarity with playstyles and heroes that we have to face and adapt to on the go, especially since we haven’t been able to scrim with different regions outside of SEA,” Alvarado said.

That unfamiliarity could make preparation just as important as raw talent.

SIBOL spent two days in Tokyo for its final training camp before traveling to Aichi, with support coaches Francis “Duckey” Glindro, Michael “Arcadia” Bocado, and Denver “Yeb” Miranda joining the team to help fine-tune its preparations.

Turning pressure into fuel
The Philippines knows, however, that preparation can only go so far.

At the end of the day, SIBOL must still deal with the weight of expectation that comes with representing one of the world’s most successful MLBB nations.

For Alvarado, the answer is not to run from that pressure — but to embrace it.

“I think that’s just part of being at the top. We just have to embrace it, use it as motivation, and learn to see the pressure in a more positive way.”

A new piece of history waiting to be written.

And with MLBB making its official Asian Games debut, SIBOL has the chance to make sure the first name etched into that history is the Philippines.
