Dominic Escobar Set to Join Caloocan Batang Kankaloo in MPBL

Dominic Escobar is set to take the first step in his post-collegiate playing career after agreeing to join Caloocan Batang Kankaloo in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

According to sources close to the situation, Escobar will sign a one-year deal with the MPBL club, a move designed to keep his competitive edge sharp as he prepares for a long-term goal of entering the 2027 PBA Draft or drawing interest from overseas leagues.

Escobar comes off a well-documented stint with Ateneo Blue Eagles in the UAAP, where he quickly earned a reputation as a dependable, physical wing who could contribute on both ends of the floor.

His impact often went beyond the box score, particularly on defense, shotmaking, and in transition, where his IQ stood out.

The move to the MPBL gives Escobar a platform that blends competitiveness with visibility. The league has become a reliable route for players who want regular minutes against seasoned professionals while staying on the radar of professional leagues.

For Escobar, Caloocan offers a setting where he can expand his offensive game, take on a larger role, and maintain peak physical condition in a long, grind-heavy season.

Caloocan Batang Kankaloo is one of the MPBL’s more exciting teams after recruiting former CSB Blazer Jake Gaspay, UAAP champion Kean Baclaan, and now, Escobar.

The team is backed strongly by local government and community support. Escobar fits neatly into their team. His UAAP background, combined with his size and versatility, gives the team another option on the wing who can guard multiple positions and contribute immediately.

For Escobar, a productive MPBL run could strengthen his case for the 2027 PBA Draft while also opening doors abroad, especially if he shows growth as a scorer and on-ball defender.

For Caloocan, it is a low-risk, high-upside addition that reinforces their rotation and adds credibility to their continued push as a serious MPBL contender.
