Kieffer Alas Commits to Ateneo Blue Eagles

Young basketball phenom Kieffer Alas has committed to the Ateneo Blue Eagles, he confirmed on his Instagram account.

The 6-foot-2 combo guard made his decision following months of speculation on where he would play out his collegiate career. Considered one of the brightest young hoopers in the country today, Alas is expected to help Ateneo return to its status as a UAAP powerhouse.

According to a source, Alas’ decision came down to between De La Salle University and Ateneo. He previously suited up for De La Salle-Zobel in the UAAP high school division, winning league MVP after averaging 20.1 points, 11.1 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1 steal a game.

Alas chose Ateneo because he felt Blue Eagles head coach Tab Baldwin laid out the best plans for his development as a basketball player, with the multi-titled mentor visiting Alas in the United States multiple time to discuss a possible future together.

Ateneo also recently recruited Palarong Pambansa MVP Rene Baterbonia and high school standout Jay-M Leal, stocking up on talent for the UAAP seasons to come.

Kieffer is finishing his education with Utah Prep in the United States. He had hoped to play NCAA Division 1 basketball but when that possibility did not materialize, he looked at options back home to continue his career.

At Ateneo, Kieffer will also play for his dad Louie Alas, who is part of the Blue Eagles’ coaching staff.
