Richmond Casiño finds a new home with UE Red Warriors
Richmond Casiño has found his next home by committing to the UE Red Warriors as he prepares for the next chapter of his collegiate career in the Philippines.
The former Lyceum Pirate Casiño, 21, will undergo a one-year residency in 2026 before becoming eligible to compete in the UAAP in 2027. Once he suits up, he will have three full years of playing eligibility remaining, giving the Red Warriors a long runway to develop him within the program.
A pure Filipino who moved to the United States at age 12, Casiño brings a mix of overseas training and local experience. He was lined up as a freshman for the Pirates in NCAA Season 101, where he began adapting to the Philippine collegiate style of play before deciding to transfer to UE.
For Casiño, the decision came down to comfort, trust, and basketball fit.
“I chose UE because I felt like I was home when I experienced Coach Chris Gavina and Coach Paulo Hubalde’s coaching,” he said. “They’re both like my coach back in the US, ex-PBA coach Dale Singson. They are helping me to get better, and the players are very helpful. I feel like I can really play my game every time I was practicing with them.”
That early sense of familiarity stood out during his time training with the team. With a full residency year ahead, Casiño views the transition period as a chance to grow without pressure, learn the system, and sharpen his game alongside his new teammates.
His versatility in the backcourt is one of his biggest strengths. While he developed primarily as a shooting guard during his years in the United States, his stint at LPU saw him converted into a point guard, expanding his responsibilities and improving his feel for the game.
“Naturally I was a shooting guard in the US but got converted as a point guard at LPU,” Casiño explained. “So now I can play both and it depends what Coach Chris will need me to do.”
That positional flexibility could become a valuable asset for UE once he becomes eligible, giving the coaching staff options in shaping their guard rotation moving forward.
Casiño is represented by Phenom Sports Management, which continues to guide his development as he prepares for UAAP play.
If his residency year unfolds as planned, the Red Warriors may unveil a more polished and confident guard when Casiño finally makes his UAAP debut in 2027.
