Source: Jay-M Leal Verbally Commits to Ateneo

According to a source with knowledge of the situation, Jay-M Leal has verbally committed to the Ateneo Blue Eagles, choosing to continue his basketball journey in Katipunan as he nears the end of a strong high school run.

Leal, one of the consistent performers in the current UAAP boys’ basketball season, the 6-foot-7 versatile weapon been a key figure for Ateneo’s resurgence at the high school level. He is averaging 13.3 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game in Season 88, showing his ability to contribute across multiple areas. His steady production and improved decision-making have made him one of the more closely watched prospects in his class.

Leal drew interest from several other UAAP programs before giving his verbal commitment. Among the schools believed to be in consideration were NU, UP, and De La Salle’s collegiate programs. Each university presented its own opportunity, but Ateneo’s system, culture, and player development track record ultimately stood out, according to a source.

While a verbal commitment is not yet binding until formal signing, the decision signals Leal’s serious intent to stay within the Ateneo program and continue building on the foundation he has established in high school.

If his current trajectory continues, he projects as a versatile wing who can score efficiently, rebound well for his position, and make timely reads within structured offensive sets.

Ateneo, who recently recruited Palaraong Pambansa MVP Rene Baternonia, appears to have secured another promising standout from this year’s high school class.
