Sassa Gurl is the featured talent fronting this year’s Golden Month campaign for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, bringing her signature humor to the community-wide celebration. ALL-STAR gets candid with the Golden Month’s leading lady to talk MLBB, tropa chaos, and accidental friendships made through MLBB.
It all started with a series of conversation screenshots that went viral. It was a rant that springboarded Mobile Legends: Bang Bang’s biggest event of the year, the Golden Month. The screenshots captured something instantly familiar: how MLBB has woven itself into everyday Filipino life.
In this interview, we unravel how MLBB helped shape Sassa Gurl’s gaming life, from chaotic barkada matches to the humor and friendships that now echo through her work and her role in Golden Month.
ABO: Hi Sassa! I’m Abo of ALL-STAR Magazine. Matagal na kitang finafollow, nakikita ko yung mga pahapyaw na reference mo sa MLBB sa mga content mo dati. Kwentuhan mo ako anong mga NAKAKAINIS na NAKAKATAWA na memories or experience mo about MLBB with your classmates or tropa.
SASSA: Tropa ko. Diyos ko! May kalaro akong bakla lagi. Magaling naman sya pero kasi ang tendency ng magagaling na player o tropa mong magaling, nagsosolo lagi. Alam mo yun? Hindi team player. Maiinis ka na lang, kasi nakakapatay nga sya kaso lang tina-tank nya o ine-engage nya kalaban nang sya lang mag-isa. Ending, natatalo kami. Yun ang nakakainis. Syempre trashtalkan kami dyan, tinatalakan ko nang malala. Nagawa ko na ring skit ‘to sa Tiktok.
A: Paano ka ba nagsimula sa MLBB? Like kelan ka nag start maglaro, anong first main hero mo, at anong favorite roles mo?
S: Unang beses ko nag MLBB, nasa Batangas kami. 2017 o 2018 ata yun, kasama ko mga lalaki kong tropa. Mga lalaki kasi barkada ko nung college. Naglaro sila ng MLBB, syempre OP (out of place) si bakla, iPhone 5s pa ko nun. Kahit ngarag cellphone ko at hindi ko mapindot ang home button, nag download ako! Unang hero ko si Saber, so roam ako. Nagpakain ako at nagpabigat ako nung round na yun pero as the playing happens, gumagaling at gumagaling ako.
A: Anong pinaka ayaw mong ginagawa ng kakampi mo tuwing naglalaro ka? At paano mo sila hinahandle, lalo na kapag randos! (I’ve been muted so many times, yung pinakamahaba was 7 days!)
S: Naiinis ako pag tinatrashtalk ako pag namamatay. Kasi alam mo naman ako, pabigat na girl lang ako. Charing! Ang fantasy ko kasi sa MLBB, baby girl lang, support. Syempre yung kakampi ko, pag natatalo, demanding sa support. ‘Heal mo, heal mo,’ so ako nabubwisit. Ay di kita ihi-heal, ang kapal ng mukha mo. So tina-trashtalk ako. Eh ayaw ko minamandohan ako at inuunahan sa role ko na support.
A: Eh paano kapag friend mo talaga yung kalaro mo tapos hindi magaling? Ako kasi nahihiya akong mapikon kapag ganun!
S: Edi defeat. Wala naman magiging ibang resulta kundi defeat kayong dalawa. Kailangan nyo maranasan kasi noob kayong lahat. Sasamahan mo talaga kaibigan mong bobo sa pagka-defeat, pagbaba ng rank, at pagkalose ng stars.
A: Have you ever trolled a game? Hahaha
S: Dati talaga, malala! Pag tinoyo ako, ay leave talaga ako. Kahit bigyan ako ng parusa ng MLBB. Nakakatawa dati, pagpa-feed ako malala, natalo kami. Yung mukha ng kaibigan ko talaga. Tapos sa dulo sabi ko, IT’S A PRANK!
A: Alam mo ba, I’ve made many real-life friends through MLBB, since I’ve started playing in 2018. May pinalipad pa akong ka-duo ko from Mindanao to Manila just so he can watch MPL. Kaw ba may ganyan ka rin bang nabuong friendships through the game? Kwento mo please!
S: Ohhh bongga! Ang mga naging experiences ko lang sa MLBB, makipaglaban sa tropa at makikampi sa tropa ng tropa. Usually, pag inuman, di mo makilala lahat eh. Pero pag nagkaayaan ng MLBB, ay day! Magkakakilala-kilala na kayo diyan. Syempre yung dinadala ng tropa mo, ‘di ko pa kilala yun, diba? Pag nakalaro ko na sila, after the game, magtropa na kaming lahat. I like that experience sa MLBB. Lahat nang nakakalaro ko sa MLBB, nagiging solid kong tropa. Ayonch!
