Are the Clippers Back?
After a dismal 5-16 start, the Clippers are on a 12-3 midseason surge. Can the Los Angeles Clippers actually manage a playoff push?
The Clippers have won 12 of their last 15 games.
Kawhi Leonard has been stellar. In the last 10 games, he has averaged 28 points per game (on almost 50% shooting, 46% from downtown), 6 rebounds, and 4 assists per game. He has been a hell of a defensive player too–2.3 steals per game. The stats don’t lie–Prime Klaw has returned.
James Harden has been great too. He is the team’s primary facilitator, and has averaged 26 points, 5 rebounds, and 8 assists per game. He has not been so efficient, but he can still draw a lot of defenders. He’s also averaging 1.4 steals per game.
The Clippers should also be grateful to Ivica Zubac, their ever-reliable big man. He steadily drops 14 points and 12 rebounds per game–a double-double machine. He has played 38 games this season, and has been reliable when Kawhi and Harden are not available, which was the case early in the season. John Collins has also been producing (16 points, 5 rebounds per game).
They also have dynamic young players eager to prove themselves: Jordan (Miller) and Kobe (Sanders). Cam Christie too. They have trusty vets in Kris Dunn, Nic Batum, and Brook Lopez.
So the question is, how long can they sustain this run? It mainly depends on James Harden and Kawhi Leonard. They can survive most games when these two are available.
It does not seem like the Clippers are actively tanking. Some pundits believe that they had one of the easiest schedules the past weeks, hence their hot streak. Whatever the case may be, it will be an interesting month for the Clips.
