Daily Fantasy: How to Pick Team Captains and Vice-Captains

Picking captains and vice captains–this is something that makes the Daily Fantasy game a bit more exciting than your traditional fantasy league.

Once a contest has been entered and a squad has been chosen, the game will ask for a captain and vice captain.

Captains and Vice Captains

Each player who has been chosen will have stats, e.g. points, rebounds, assists, steals, and blocks. The game turns these statistics into a number score using a multiplier. Each player’s score, in turn, will be added together to determine the rankings within the players in a given contest.

The captain’s and the vice captain’s score get an extra boost (x2 and x1.5, successively). This is where the excitement lies–anyone could potentially have a great game, and a lot of things can be considered–trends in the previous games, injury reports, line-up adjustments, rotations (if the contest is part of a playoff series), etc.

The predictive nature of this part of the gameplay definitely adds a layer of complexity and immersiveness into the player experience. Do you automatically pick the player with the highest minute-per-game or usage rate, let’s say LA Laker Luka Doncic as the captain? Or is King James a better pick because of his consistency in stats?

It is good advice to consider picking the captain carefully, as the player in the captain spot is essentially the equivalent of two players, and could affect the contest rankings significantly.
