The Greek Freak is Leaving: The Giannis Saga Begins
The Greek Freak is leaving Milwaukee. Giannis Antetokounmpo wants to win, and he won’t as long as he is a Milwaukee Buck. Where will he end up?
For weeks, speculation has been rife about Giannis’ future with the Bucks. He is putting up insane MVP numbers–30 points, 10 rebounds, and 6 assists–yet, the Bucks are only 10-13 and are one of the worst, inconsistent teams in the Eastern Conference.
Since their championship season, the Bucks have gotten progressively worse. They broke up the championship core, traded defensive stalwart Jrue Holiday for an aging Dame Lillard, which didn’t pan out. They gave away future draft picks in an effort to get Giannis some help, even trading long-time teammate Khris Middleton. Last season, they let Dame Lillard go, and got Myles Turner. Now, they are headed towards another mediocre season with an early exit from the playoffs as the best case scenario.
Giannis is 30 years old, and this is his 13th season. He is nearing his prime and for someone who relies heavily on youthful athleticism, he is on a timer. Every NBA star of that magnitude has the right to chase championships, and truth be told, Antetokounmpo does not see it happening with the Bucks, not anytime soon. Their roster looks as if they’re rebuilding already.
For the meantime, Giannis will still put up crazy numbers as long as he remains healthy, but fans may see him wear another jersey before February’s trade deadline. The Warriors, the Lakers, and the Spurs are some potential destinations. Wherever he ends up, the trade is going to break the NBA.
