We Got Our Hands on the Official Phone of MPL Philippines

We showed the Infinix GT 20 Pro to a hardcore MLBB player, a pro player, and a gadget geek.

When we unboxed the Infinix GT 20 Pro, several things caught our attention. It is sleek, lightweight, and easy to grip. ALL-STAR reviewed the official gaming phone of MPL Philippines and pushed it to its limits. This is what we found out.

What’s in the box?

We loved how Infinix put a lot of thought into the packaging of the GT 20 Pro—it’s like opening a present wrapped in origami. Contents of the box include the 194-gram Infinix GT 20 Pro, a casing with a haptic design, disposable screen wipes, a protective tempered glass screen, and a USB-C charger.

Usually, phones only come with a plastic casing, but we were happy to see that Infinix has included a tempered glass screen in the box.

Our favorite things about the Infinix GT 20 Pro

ALL-STAR showed the Infinix GT 20 Pro to a hardcore MLBB gamer, a pro player, and a gadget geek and asked them about what they think of the gaming phone. Here’s what they had to say.

Hardcore MLBB Player

“I pushed the phone to its limits in running Mobile Legends: Bang Bang,” said ALL-STAR’s resident hardcore gamer, who has downed more than 16,000 games on MLBB since 2018.

“I clocked out the game’s settings and set the frame rate and graphics to Ultra, a level higher than Super.  Normally, these settings will cause a significant lag in the game. I did not experience lag with the Infinix GT 20 Pro after playing 6 consecutive matches for two hours. It did not even overheat,” he added.

Infinix GT 20 Pro is powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 8200 Ultimate processor that supports its 12 GB RAM, Pixelworks X5 Dedicated Gaming Display Chip, and a 120FPS Stable Frame-rate Engine, making easy work of MLBB’s relatively demanding 8 GB storage and 2 GB RAM requirements.

Features that Stand Out for Hardcore MLBB Gamer:

  • No lag despite maxed-out settings in the game
  • No overheating after 6 matches in 2 hours
  • 120 FPS Stable Frame-rate Engine  for Mobile Legends: Bang Bang

Pro Player

ALL-STAR also talked to a pro player in their boot camp when we visited and brought the phone there.

“Ayos to ah, ang gaan” (“This is great, it’s lightweight”), he said.

He also said that the phone is easy to grip, especially with the tactile casing with a textured surface. “Mas madali maglaro dito,” he added. (“It’s easier to play on this phone.”)

The phone’s textured casing is a thoughtful feature that improves your grip on the phone, which is crucial when performing high-mechanic maneuvers and multiple skills in the game. This is perfect for professional players, who typically use at least six fingers to manipulate the screen in-game.

Gadget Geek

ALL-STAR’s resident gadget geek was also impressed by the phone’s visuals.

“The design on the back is impressive. The display on the screen is also rich and crisp, and we haven’t even adjusted it for gaming,” said the gadget geek.

Features that Stand Out for Gadget Geek:

  • Bezel-less 144Hz FHD+ AMOLED Display
  • Customizable RGB mini-LED with 8 color combos & 4 lighting effects
  • Cyber Mecha Design with Turbine Blade Pattern

Comparison: The Infinix GT 20 Pro performs like a High-End Gaming Phone

For context, ALL-STAR’s Hardcore MLBB Player is currently using a high-end gaming phone that was worth P40,000 when it was first released. After a thorough review, he found out that the Infinix GT 20 Pro is able to keep up with the performance of that P40k gaming phone.

One of the key features of the GT 20 Pro is its Stable Frame-rate Engine that promises a steady 120 FPS while playing MLBB. This proves its mettle during 5-on-5 clashes in the game when lag usually spikes. Our gameplay was smooth, and the ping was consistently low. And we haven’t even enabled MLBB’s Speed Mode and Network Boost. Its performance is very similar to the P40k gaming phone in terms of frame rate, graphics, and speed

Like the P40k gaming phone, the Infinix GT 20 Pro loads resources very fast: both phones take an average of three seconds to load the main screen of MLBB, based on our personal user experience. Both phones are also incredibly fast at loading and unpacking resources when installing the MLBB for the first time. It only took 10 minutes to download and unpack the 8 GB resources of MLBB on the Infinix GT 20 Pro.

The Infinix GT 20 Pro weighs 194 grams, lighter than the P40k gaming phone which weighs 240 grams. Both phones also have customizable RGB LED on the back, which gives the phone a truly gamer look.

Other standout features of the Infinix GT 20 Pro include temperature management and battery life.

Temperature Management – After playing 10 Classic and Ranked Games on MLBB with the GT 20 Pro, we realized it did not overheat as much as other gaming phones do. This is impressive, considering we maxed out the settings of the game during our matches.

Battery Life – The phone’s energy management is also commendable. When we played MLBB for two hours, the phone only drained its battery by 36 percent. Our settings in the game were set to the most demanding, and we did not plug the charger during our game.

What Makes the GT 20 Pro special?

Once we’ve fully pushed the GT 20 Pro to its limits in MLBB gaming, we understood why MPL Philippines selected it as its official tournament phone. Here are some features that make it stand out:

We think Avid mobile gamers will love the phone. Avid mobile gamers are very particular about the size of the phone they are using, and the GT 20 Pro is perfect for them. It is not too wide and not too small. There is no lag on the phone when playing for extensive hours on broadband connection.

Esports Leagues around the world use it. You know a phone is good when major esports leagues around the world trust it. The GT 20 Pro is the official phone of the MPL Philippines, MDL of Indonesia, Malaysia’s MLBB Academy League, the MLBB Myanmar Esports Party, and the PUBG Southeast Asia League.

Ok, cool. So how much?

The Infinix GT 20 Pro is priced at P15,999, but if you order on launch day on June 10, you can get the phone for a promo price of P13,999. This price comes with a free GT 20 Pro gaming kit, which includes a tactile casing, a cooling fan, and a finger sleeve

The GT 20 Pro will be available simultaneously with the GT BOOK laptop on June 12, 2024

Decision-making factors on why you might choose the Infinix GT 20 Pro

There are three things about the GT 20 Pro that would most likely sway gamers into purchasing this product.

First is its price. For a phone with a promo price of P13,999, the GT 20 positions itself as a very competitive phone not only for casual gamers but also for the most serious gamers out there.

Second is its speed. Without enabling Speed Mode and Network Boost in MLBB, the GT 20 Pro proved it is a hardworking and super fast phone with a steady 120 FPS Stable Frame-rate Engine

Third is temperature management. Heat is the number one enemy of any gadget or piece of tech. With a high RAM and powerful processor, heat is usually expected. But after playing six consecutive games on MLBB using max settings, we didn’t experience overheating, which means the GT 20 Pro will likely have a long lifespan.
