Girlypops Football: Glitter, Goals, and Girl Power
If football came in pink glitter jerseys, a playlist of feel-good anthems, and a squad that cheers just as loud for a first touch as they do for a winning goal, it would look a lot like Girlypops Football.
Girlypops Football isn’t here to scare anyone off. They’re here to welcome you in. The club was founded by Angelica Aplasca, who also serves as team manager, alongside Jenzine Alcantara, co-founder and head of marketing. The club is fueled by their shared passion for the sport—a passion that is nothing short of uplifting. Focusing on player development isn’t easy, but here they are, building something meaningful for the football community while making the game more inviting than ever. They’ve created a little corner of the pitch where learning is just as important as enjoying, and where teammates often become close friends.

“I believe what makes us different from others is being one of the very first to build a solid and safe community for women who want to learn and play football—and what makes it even more special is that the club itself is proudly run by women, for women,” Angelica shares.

Three words sum them up: empowerment, feminine, passion. The club was born after the founders watched the Philippine Women’s National Football Team make history at the FIFA World Cup. That moment of pride came with a realization: while the country was celebrating, opportunities for women to play, especially beginners, were still rare.
“We wanted to create a safe, inclusive space for women to try football, even if they’ve never touched a ball before,” the club says. “It’s about learning, yes, but also about having fun and building friendships.”
For Angelica, seeing women grow in confidence on and off the pitch is just as rewarding as winning any match.

There are no intimidating tryouts here. No “you’re not good enough” moments. Girlypops Football keeps an open-door approach. Young women from all walks of life show up on Monday nights, some seasoned, some just figuring out how to pass the ball straight.
Everyone belongs.
“We welcome any level of players, especially beginners who are passionate about learning football,” Jenzine mentions.
And the results? Pretty amazing.
Not long ago, they joined a one-day tournament and walked away as champions. It wasn’t just the win that made them proud but also knowing that the goals and the grit came from women who were complete beginners not too long ago.
The victory was special not just for the trophy but because it proved that with consistency and support, even newcomers can shine on the pitch.
Being part of the wider wave of women’s football in the country is something they treasure. They know they are a small part of a big movement, standing alongside the Filipinas, the U17 squad, and the women’s futsal team in proving football isn’t just a man’s game.
“We started playing late too,” they say. “It’s never too late. Girlypops is the vibe, football is the drive.”
So if you wander into SM Cherry Turf on a Monday night from 8 to 10 pm, don’t be surprised if you hear as much laughter as you do the sound of the ball hitting the net. That’s Girlypops Football, a team that’s growing, learning, and having the time of their lives doing it.
