Fantasy Series #3: The Miami Heat
It’s barely 2 weeks after the NBA Finals and the Miami Heat are already making headlines with their acquisition of Giannis Antetokounmpo.
The Fantasy series looks at the featured team’s season statistical performance and explores offseason possibilities.
2025-2026 Key Season Stats
Giannis Antetokounmpo – 27.6 points per game, 5.4 assists per game, 10 rebounds per game
Bam Adebayo – 20.1 points per game, 10 rebounds per game
Norman Powell (free agent) – 21.7 points per game
The Miami Heat just shocked the league–they gutted their relatively young roster and acquired the Greek Freak, Giannis Antetokounmpo, from the Milwaukee Bucks.
The Miami Heat received Giannis and fellow Bucks big Bobby Portis. Thus concludes Giannis’s 13-year Milwaukee stint.
In exchange, the Bucks receive quite a shopping list: shooter Tyler Herro, forward Jaime Jaquez Jr., young center Kel’el Ware, role player Kasparas Jakucionis, 3 first round picks, a pick swap, and a second round pick. That’s quite a lot even for Giannis, who is currently on his 14th season.
This move completely takes away the Miami Heat from a rebuild phase and puts them into a sort of “win now” mode. Acquisition of experienced superstars for some young talent is not new in the NBA, but it is usually frowned upon.
The main issue will be Antetokounmpo’s compatibility and fit with the Miami system. They just traded away their starting point guard and floor-spacer Tyler Herro, and sharpshooter Norman Powell’s return to Miami is doubtful now that he is a free agent. Bam and Giannis are not known threats from beyond the arc, and veteran Andrew Wiggins is too inconsistent to be considered one.
They definitely have excellent inside presence which could compete at a high level defensively, but as of this moment, the roster’s looking a bit sparse. There is Nikola Jovic and Davion Mitchell, but that’s pretty much the experienced support they have. It would be interesting to see how Pat Riley and the front office fill out the roster. In the past eras of Miami superteams, Riley has always managed to get the necessary personnel to support the core. (Remember Alonzo Mourning, Antoine Walker to the ‘06 team and Ray Allen to the ‘13 team?)
There is even a rumor that says LeBron might be inclined to return to South Beach to chase a ring with Bam and Giannis, but that story is for another day.
