Daily Fantasy Heat Check #3: Giannis Antetokounmpo

Giannis Antetokounmpo is finally out of the Milwaukee Bucks. What kind of season awaits him in Miami?

The Heat Check series focuses on players who are “stat monsters,” producers who are cornerstones of all kinds of fantasy league teams and contests.

2025-2026 SEASON STATS

Giannis Antetokounmpo (only 36 out of 82 games played; calf strain and knee hyperextension)

27.6  points per game

5.4 assists per game

9.8 rebounds per game

After playing cat-and-mouse with the Bucks in the past 3 seasons, Giannis is finally out of Milwaukee. He is now with the Miami Heat, where he has a better chance of getting another trip to the NBA Finals.

Giannis, if healthy, is still one of the top players in the league. Stat-wise, he will produce, and even in his 13th season, his athletic gifts still enable him to be a rim-running threat. If Miami could surround him with shooters (ideally, 3&D Danny Green type of players) who could take some defensive pressure off the interior, Giannis and Bam Adebayo could be in for a great run. Signing Normal Powell should be the first agenda for the Heat front office.

Milwaukee could say the same–that it has finally moved on from Giannis and the pressure of assembling a win-now roster. Since the 2021 championship, the Bucks have seemingly made too many unsound decisions which compromised their future in the hopes of enabling the Freak’s roster demands–trading away defensive minded Jrue Holiday for Damian Lillard, which ended in Lillard going back to Portland anyway; releasing Khris Middleton who ended up with the Wizards, and getting rival center Myles Turner–in which all turned out to be futile. This Giannis trade is pretty good for the Bucks–they have gone from a team without future assets to a bit of a recovering-rebuilding team.

One thing is certain for Giannis–Miami has better chances of getting into a Finals run compared to the Bucks. He was actually almost with the Celtics for Jaylen Brown, but the trade was derailed and Giannis is now in South Beach. If they Miami Heat could do something about their roster, and if Bam and Giannis could stay healthy, then perhaps they could be in for a good run this season.

For Daily Fantasy Players: HOT! Giannis will always produce whenever he is available. He can be captain or vice captain in your contest lineups.

Traditional Fantasy Players: MID! Giannis is in his 13th season, and he relies too much on his athleticism (e.g. his ability to go downhill). That is usually not a good thing for longevity (Derrick Rose, Russell Westbrook, even Shaq). He can be a good pick, but not a core pick for your lineups.
