“I’m incredibly blessed and grateful to begin this new chapter of my journey with Earthfriends Tokyo Z. It’s an honor to join a club with such passionate fans and a strong vision for the future,” Malonzo said in a statement released by the team.
“I’m excited to get to Tokyo, meet my teammates, coaches, and everyone who supports this organization,” he added. “I can’t wait to compete at the highest level, give everything I have every single day, and do my part to help bring success to the team. See you all soon — let’s make this a special season together!”
Malonzo, who signed a one-year contract with his new team, has represented Gilas Pilipinas for several years and helped the national team capture the gold medal at the 2025 Southeast Asian Games. He has been utilized by the Philippines as a flexible forward who can defend several positions, run the floor and finish above the rim.
Earthfriends Tokyo Z is a professional club based in Tokyo’s Ota area and will compete in B.LEAGUE ONE beginning with the 2026–27 season. B.LEAGUE ONE will serve as the second division under Japan’s newly reorganized professional basketball structure.
The club is entering a new era as it rebuilds its roster for the inaugural B.LEAGUE ONE campaign. Tokyo Z has also developed familiarity with Filipino players in recent years, and now Malonzo becomes their latest addition.
Malonzo becomes one of the few Filipino players continuing to represent Philippine basketball professionally in Japan, further showcasing the country’s talent on the international stage. His arrival gives Tokyo Z an experienced and recognizable addition as the organization prepares to compete under the B.LEAGUE’s new structure.
The club expressed its excitement over welcoming Malonzo and is looking forward to having him join the team. Malonzo is likewise excited about the opportunity to return to Japan, begin a new chapter with Earthfriends Tokyo Z and continue representing the Philippines internationally.
