After spending 10 seasons with the Boston Celtics, Jaylen Brown has been traded to the Philadelphia 76ers.
In the 2025-2026 season, the Celtics were pretty much “his” team. Jayson Tatum was gone for much of the season due to the achilles tendon tear, and the reins were handed to Brown.
He has made his thoughts known that he wanted a team of his own, and the Celtics management thought that there might be friction in the locker room next season between the two players. Of course, Tatum is untouchable, and Jaylen Brown has been embroiled in a bunch of off-court stuff (nothing too serious) that included his hot takes during his livestreams.
Did Jaylen Brown get what he wanted? Probably not.
Joel Embiid thinks he is still the Process, the top dude, which could be true if he’s healthy. Tyrese Maxey plays like he is the top dude. VJ Edgecombe has been touted as the next top dude. To make things worse for JB, there are even rumors of Philly as a top destination for the King top dude, LeBron James. If that pans out, Brown will be reduced to a spot-up dude.
Which is the problem, really– Brown left a team with one Jayson Tatum for a team with potentially 4 Jayson Tatums, and his spot-up game is mid at best. In contrast, Paul George, who is now with the Celtics, shoots 40% of his catch-and-shoot threes, which is not so bad after all for the Cs.
Maybe Jaylen Brown needs to work on his catch-and-shoot threes.
For Daily Fantasy Players: MID! Jaylen Brown could be in your contests, but not as captain or vice-captain. Tyrese Maxey and VJ Edgecombe will be the main scorers. Maybe could be a good pick if the team is facing an opponent that runs small line-ups.
Traditional Fantasy Players: NOT! Jaylen Brown needs the ball to score, and he is not doing that in Philadelphia. Maxey and Edgecombe will get those ball-handling duties. JB will be a great complement to any team, though, probably the 8th-10th pick.
