Aldwin Herrera Commits to Letran Knights in the NCAA

Youth basketball point guard Aldwin Herrera has committed to the Letran Knights and will be eligible to begin his collegiate career in NCAA Season 103 in 2027, Anthony Brodett of Phenom Sports Management told ALL-STAR. Herrera will have five playing seasons available.

Herrera is a 20-year-old guard from Tiaong, Quezon who developed through the Batang Tiaong grassroots program before representing the Quezon Junior Huskers in the Junior MPBL. He has also competed in the Converge FiberX PYD Tatluhan circuit and NBTC 3×3.

His most notable team success came in 2024, when he helped Batang Tiaong capture a second consecutive NBTC South Luzon championship. Herrera then scored 14 points in a 61-57 victory over Sacred Heart School-Ateneo de Cebu at the NBTC National Finals, where the Quezon-based team advanced to the Division 1 semifinals.

Herrera later delivered one of his best documented individual performances for the Quezon Junior Huskers in January 2025: he scored 21 points, grabbed six rebounds and shot 63 percent from the field in a 66-56 Game 3 victory over the Rosario ICC Blue Hawks, sending Quezon into the Junior MPBL divisional semifinals.

Brodett particularly acknowledged attorney Rex Baldeo and Tiaong Mayor Vincent Arjay Mea following Herrera’s commitment. Baldeo is the founder, head coach and principal architect of Batang Tiaong, the program responsible for Herrera’s long-term development and national exposure.

Established in 2019, Batang Tiaong trains players from different age groups while helping them pursue scholarships and balance basketball with their education. Baldeo has personally worked to create collegiate opportunities for players from the municipality, making Herrera’s move to Letran an extension of the program’s central mission.

Mea’s contribution has been institutional. Batang Tiaong has identified the mayor as a principal sponsor and has repeatedly credited him for supporting its clinics, competitions and other basketball activities.

His backing helped provide the resources and competitive opportunities through which Herrera and other Tiaong players could be seen outside Quezon.

On the court, Herrera has developed a reputation as a physical, assertive point guard who attacks the paint, finishes through contact and uses a floater against taller defenders. His assist and steal numbers also suggest a guard capable of organizing possessions and applying pressure defensively.

The commitment takes Herrera from a community-based Quezon program to one of the NCAA’s most established basketball institutions. It also gives Letran substantial time to integrate and develop him before his scheduled debut in 2027.
