Alas Girls’ Round of 16 Hopes Hang in Balance After Peru Loss at FIVB U17 World Championship

Alas Pilipinas Girls find themselves in a do-or-die situation after falling to Peru in four sets, 28-26, 22-25, 23-25, 20-25, in the Pool B Preliminary Phase of the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship on Tuesday, Philippine time.

The young Filipina squad claimed the opening set before Peru rallied to win the next three, dropping the Philippines to a 2-2 record while Peru improved to 3-1.

The Alas Girls appeared poised to take a 2-1 lead after building a commanding 22-15 advantage in the third set, only for Peru to mount a stunning comeback and steal the frame, 25-23.

Despite the loss, Sharina Lleses led the Alas Girls’ offense with 18 points, all coming from attacks. Caera Celis added 17 points on 15 attacks and two aces, while Xyz Rayco chipped in 12 points.

The Alas Girls will look to keep their Round of 16 hopes alive when they face Venezuela on Wednesday at 2:00 a.m. (Philippine time).
