Alas Girls Fall to South Korea in FIVB U17 World Championship

The Alas Pilipinas Girls U17 failed to advance to the quarterfinals of the 2026 FIVB Volleyball Girls’ U17 World Championship after South Korea swept them, 25-21, 25-18, 25-14, in the Round of 16 in Los Andes, Chile, on Thursday morning (Manila time).

From fighting their way out of Group B in the Preliminary Round to reaching the Round of 16, the Alas Girls just couldn’t get past world No. 12 South Korea.

Seoyeon Son led Korea’s commanding victory with 19 points, including 13 attacks, 3 blocks, and 3 aces, while Minseo Eo added 15 points; for Alas Pilipinas, Caera Celis was the lone double-digit scorer with 14 points, while Xyz Rayco chipped in 9.

The loss did little to dampen the Alas Girls’ historic run, as they are assured of the Philippines’ best-ever World Championship finish and will look to return to the win column against Japan in the 9th-16th quarterfinals on Friday (August 14) in Santiago, Chile.
