UP’S NEW ATTACKING THREAT: JACOB KELEGHAN

For 19-year-old Jacob Keleghan, Season 89 comes with a new badge and a new challenge.

The half-Filipino, half-Irish forward arrives at UP after a standout season with FEU, stepping into a new system and a squad packed with competition. There’s no guaranteed place for him, but that’s part of the challenge he signed up for. 

“Its a very new and different environment and I wanted to experience something new which is great also for growth. And of course UP is very strong with good coaches and a great school in general.”

That adjustment began in Thailand, where UP travelled for a pre-season training camp as part of its preparation for the upcoming UAAP Season 89. Away from the usual routine, Keleghan got the chance to settle in with his new teammates and build the relationships that will matter once the season gets underway.

“The Thailand trip was pretty fun. I got to know my teammates pretty well and got to build a better relationship with each one which is great for the team’s chemistry on the field.”

But there’s no hiding what Keleghan brings to the table. He was a standout for FEU last season, and the move to UP hasn’t taken away that hunger. If anything, a new environment gives him another reason to push.

Now, the challenge is earning his place in a stacked UP squad. Keleghan has already started doing that, getting minutes in the Tuloy Invitational Cup and finding the back of the net for his new school.

There’s still plenty of work ahead, and Keleghan knows it.

“No one has a guaranteed spot in the season 89 line up yet and especially me as a freshman but I’m doing my best to adjust and perform in my new team so I’m hoping for the best.”

That makes Keleghan’s arrival one of the more interesting storylines heading into Season 89. Where does he fit in? How does UP use another attacking weapon in an already loaded squad?

Those questions are still to be answered. But one thing is certain: the reigning champions just got a little more interesting to watch.
