Aurora Gaming Seeks Revenge Against Top-Seed Team Liquid
M7 World Champion Aurora Gaming PH will get another shot at reigning three-peat champion Team Liquid PH in Week 5 Saturday action of the MPL Philippines Season 18 regular season at the Victoria Sports Tower.
But unlike their first meeting, both teams enter the rematch from very different places. Team Liquid sits atop the standings at 7-1 after closing the first half with five consecutive 2-0 sweeps, while Aurora has fought its way back to 3-4 after a difficult 0-3 start.
The Cavalry’s hot streak will be tested further this weekend as they juggle three matches from Friday to Sunday while preparing for the upcoming 20th Asian Games. In the middle of that packed schedule is a familiar opponent—and an Aurora side that has had more time to find its footing.
A Different Type of Aurora?
The M7 World Champions have had a much more turbulent road through the first half of the season.
After dropping their first three matches, Aurora slowly began finding its footing, winning three straight before falling to Team Falcons to enter Week 5 with a 3-4 record.
Their turnaround has come after a difficult start for a revamped lineup that needed time to find its rhythm. The M7 champions have already shown signs of improvement, but their next challenge is arguably their biggest one yet.
When these two teams met in Week 2, the Cavalry wasted little time asserting their control, sweeping Aurora 2-0.
At the time, Aurora was still searching for answers after its disastrous opening week.
Now, the M7 champions enter the rematch with more games under their belt, more time to adjust, and a chance to show that the lessons from their early struggles have finally translated into something more.
But if Aurora wants to turn the tables, it will have to do so against a Team Liquid side that looks nothing like the team still searching for its identity earlier in the split.
Can Aurora Stop the Cavalry Charge?
The first meeting may have belonged entirely to Team Liquid, but this rematch comes with a different set of questions.
Can Aurora’s adjustments finally crack the Cavalry’s formula?
Can the M7 World Champions slow down a Team Liquid squad that has swept five straight opponents?
And with the Cavalry juggling three matches in three days, can Aurora capitalize on an opening if one presents itself?
For Team Liquid, another victory would further cement its position at the top of the standings and keep its momentum rolling into the second half of the regular season.
For Aurora, it is a chance to prove that the team that struggled through the opening weeks is no longer the same Aurora that Team Liquid swept in Week 2.
The first meeting belonged to the Cavalry.
This time, Aurora has a chance to rewrite the story.
Catch Aurora Gaming PH and Team Liquid PH in their Week 5 rematch on Saturday, September 19, at 7:30 p.m. at the Victoria Sports Tower.
