Chicco Briones: The Gentleman Sniper
There’s a quiet magnetism about Lowell “Chicco” Briones Jr. It’s a blend of calm confidence, faith, and focus that perfectly fits the UP Fighting Maroons.
The senior shooting guard from Las Vegas, Nevada isn’t just another recruit with a solid jumper; he’s a player grounded in values, family, and the game that’s been in his blood since day one.
“My dad had a very big influence on me,” Chicco says. “He’s the reason I fell in love with basketball.”
That dad, of course, is former PBA player Lowell Briones, but Chicco’s making his own name — one defined by consistency, composure, and that smooth, 3-and-D rhythm that keeps defenses honest.
Faith is a big part of his journey. Before every game, he carries a miniature Santo Niño statue in his bag — a quiet ritual that’s more than superstition; it’s a symbol of protection and purpose.
And while winning the UAAP Season 87 championship with his “brothers” remains his proudest moment, Chicco’s heart shines just as much off the court. Whether he’s in plain black and white Puma gear or a fit that makes people turn their heads, he moves through life with understated charm and a sense of self that doesn’t need to shout.
