CJ Payawal released by Phoenix, trying out for TNT in Cebu

Phoenix has released the rights to its third-round draft pick CJ Payawal who is now with TNT in their training camp in Cebu trying out for a chance to make the roster, his agent Marvin Espiritu confirmed to ALL-STAR Magazine.
The former UE Red Warrior was taken 28th overall in the 2024 PBA Draft by the Fuelmasters but did not make their line-up due to lack of roster spots. The 3&D standout is now working to make the final cut of TNT, a PBA contender, in time for the opening of next season’s Governors’ Cup in August.
The 6-foot-3 Filipino-American baller has proven his capability to defend multiple possessions while being a kick-out option on the other end of the floor. In addition to his time in the UAAP, Payawal also gained experienced by playing for Chooks’ 3×3 team and in the MPBL with Valenzuela. In 18 MPBL appearances he averaged 10.9 points. 6.1 rebounds, 49% FG shooting, and 34% 3-point shooting.
