CSB lands Gilas Youth big man Drei Lorenzo

College of Saint Benilde has added another young frontcourt piece to its program, with Drei Lorenzo committing to the Blazers ahead of NCAA Season 102.

The development was confirmed by Anthony Brodett of Phenom Sports Management, who said Lorenzo will join CSB with five full years of eligibility beginning this year. The move gives the Blazers a long-term interior prospect as they continue building around their NCAA seniors program.

Lorenzo, a 6-foot-5 big man, brings with him experience from both the national youth team and the high school circuit, notably when he suited up for Gilas Pilipinas Boys in the 2024 FIBA U18 Asia Cup.

He made one of his more notable national team appearances in the Philippines’ 75-48 win over Indonesia in the U18 Asia Cup opener, scoring 12 points, all from beyond the arc.

Before his move to the collegiate level, Lorenzo had stints with San Beda and University of the East in the juniors ranks. With the San Beda Red Cubs, he delivered one of the standout performances of NCAA Season 99 juniors play, erupting for 33 points in a 75-66 upset of Mapua.

He later suited up for the UE Junior Warriors in UAAP Season 88, where he remained a productive frontcourt option. In one of UE’s late-season games, Lorenzo finished with 19 points and eight rebounds in a win over Adamson, giving another glimpse of his scoring and rebounding upside.

For Benilde, Lorenzo’s commitment adds both size and developmental value. The Blazers have been active in strengthening their program under head coach Charles Tiu, and adding a young Filipino big with national youth team experience gives them another piece who can grow within the system.

Lorenzo’s arrival will not only help CSB address its frontcourt depth, but also gives the Blazers a player whose best basketball may still be ahead of him. With five playing years available, the former Gilas Youth big man now has a full runway to develop into a key contributor in Taft.
