Former UST recruit Chance Carlton fitting well in Ateneo
Ateneo Blue Eagles Filipino-American recruit Chance Carlton says he’s fitting in well with his new team as he continues to hone his game.
Carlton is currently doing residency and will be eligible for three playing seasons as a Blue Eagle beginning Season 88 next year.
After leaving Green River College in the United States, the Bay Area native verbally committed to the UST Growling Tigers, but changed his mind and joined Ateneo where he feels he will be a better fit long-term.
“I feel like it was more of a family-oriented team over there. It feels like the bond they have is strong,” he told ALL-STAR Magazine in an exclusive interview about his motivation for shifting universities.
“I feel like I fit pretty well. I feel like I can shoot pretty well. I can control. I can contribute,” he said of what he can bring to Ateneo.
The 21-year-old, 5-foot-11 point guard is aware he has areas of his game that need further fine-tuning before earning a consistent rotation spot in Coach Tab Baldwin’s system.
“I got to improve the way I think, because Coach Tab is a very mindful coach. So, the way I think, think on the fly, keep my turnovers low, make sure I can control the team being a point guard,” he said.
“I love it,” he said about being in Ateneo. “I love the team, the coach, and the campus. I love the community.”
The Blue Eagles continue their Season 87 campaign on Wednesday, September 11, against UST.
