Frank Labayen Confident in La Salle’s Fresh-Look Squad for UAAP Season 88

La Salle has long been one of the biggest names in UAAP sports, with a reputation for excellence and a community that always expects the best. This season, the Green Archers football team enters UAAP Season 88 with a refreshed lineup, a mix of hungry rookies and steady veterans ready to make their mark. At the center of it all is team captain Frank Labayen, tasked with leading a squad eager to prove that DLSU football is back in the thick of the fight.

“I plan to lead by example and also set the tone in training and games, showing my teammates that discipline and consistency pay off,” Labayen said.

Building Mental Toughness

Following last year’s campaign, the Archers doubled down on their preparation. “We’ve put more focus on conditioning and mental toughness, making sure we will be ready for the season,” Labayen explained. With sharper training and renewed discipline, La Salle is looking to come into the season fitter, stronger, and more resilient.

The Green Archers tested themselves in preseason matches that provided both confidence and valuable lessons. “Our pre-season gave us a mix of challenges and confidence because we faced strong teams and proved we can compete. We also saw areas that still need improvement, which we want to address,” Labayen shared.

Rising Talents, A Different La Salle

One of La Salle’s strengths this year is its promising pool of young players, who are already showing signs of maturity. “We’ve got a lot of young guys who bring fresh energy, and I think they’ll surprise people once the season starts,” said Labayen.

With the combination of new blood and seasoned experience, this Green Archers squad has a balance that excites its captain. “We have a good mix of veterans and young guys, making us more versatile,” he noted. That versatility may be the key to competing against the UAAP’s elite.

Testing Themselves Against the Best

When it comes to opponents, Frank Labayen doesn’t shy away from the challenge. “I’m excited to face teams that are in the top 4 because it’s always a good test of where we stand. Playing against the best brings out the best in us, and that’s how we grow.”

Pride in the Badge

Beyond the pitch, wearing the Green Archers crest is something Labayen holds close to his heart. “It means a lot because I remember being a rookie just two seasons ago, dreaming of moments like this. Wearing the badge reminds me that I’m not just playing for myself, but for the school, my teammates, and the community.”

Message to the Lasallian Community

As Season 88 begins, Labayen made sure to acknowledge the fans who continue to back them. “To the DLSU community, thank you for always supporting us through every season. We’ll fight for you every game, and we hope to make you proud in Season 88.”

With a promising young core, a battle-tested captain, and the tradition of La Salle pride behind them, the Green Archers are ready to carve their place in UAAP Season 88. All eyes are on Taft — and the Archers look more than prepared to rise to the moment.
