Olympics: Joanie Delgaco Advances to Quarter Finals of Women’s Single Sculls
Filipina rower Joanie Delgaco wins repechage 1 and advances to the quarterfinals of the Women’s Single Sculls.
Delgaco competed in the repechage 1 at lane 3 for a seat in the quarterfinals, and she did not come to play. She started off strong and maintained her lead up until the end of the race.
It was a close gap with Vietnam’s Thi Hue Pham, only 0.29 seconds when they passed the 1000-meter mark. Delgaco fought hard for her position and earned a gap lead of 8.3-meters nearing the end of third quarter. She managed to widen the gap which peaked at 14.7-meters when they passed the 1500-meter mark.
Delgaco finished in first place for repechage 1 with an outstanding time of 7 minutes and 55 seconds. She will move forward in the quarterfinals of the competition, continuing her journey for the gold.
