Kim Kianna Dy: Overcoming Injuries and Finding New Passions
The PLDT High Speed Hitters welcomed Kim Kianna Dy back on the court for the 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference in the PVL. Athletes and fans alike were happy to see Dy step into the lines, eventually scoring her first point against the Creamline Cool Smashers on Sunday, Feb 15. The High Speed Hitters won the 5-set match.
“It’s been a long time since I last played, and syempre, super happy that I get to play with my parang new teammates ulit,” Dy shared in an exclusive interview with ALL-STAR.
She added, “I just want to be 100%. No pain, no anything. Then, whenever Coach needs me, I’ll be ready.”
As for her year-long healing journey, Dy admitted that it was challenging not only physically but mentally and emotionally as well.
“[It was] very hard. Not just physically, but emotionally and mentally also,” said Dy. “I know that the other injured athletes also feel the same way. It’s never an easy journey. Kailangan matibay talaga ‘yun loob mo para bumalik.”
Once an Archer, always an Archer
The former Green Archer also shared that there are lessons she learned from DLSU coach Ramil de Jesus that still serves its purpose on and off the court.
“Madami [akong] lessons na natutunan sa Lady Spikers journey ko, especially having a coach like Coach Ramil, who is, ehem, very strict,” shared Dy. “There are a lot, like discipline, time management, na nagagamit namin even outside of volleyball.”
She also wished the DLSU Lady Spikers the best of luck for their UAAP Season 87 run: “To the DLSU Lady Spikers, I know you guys will do well this season. Just give your best and listen to Coach Ramil, and you will do well. Good luck!”
KKD’s Life Through The Lens
Outside the court, Dy enjoys filming her travels and posting vlogs on her YouTube Channel, merely starting as a memory capsule: “Actually, it just started as something I wanted for memories to look back at when I’m older.”
Later on, it became an exciting hobby. “But then, it became a hobby na rin na parang when I go abroad, I’ll shoot and make videos. It just started as something I wanted for memories.
Dy also posts engaging TikToks with her family, teammates, dog Koda, and boyfriend Dwight Ramos. She participates in dance challenges with her teammates, often Majoy Baron, entertaining many of their fans. Her two words for her “rising dance career”? “Watch out!”
The PLDT High Speed Hitters will face the Zus Coffee Thunderbelles on Saturday, February 22, at the City of Passi Arena in Iloilo.
