Ateneo’s Kofi Agyei Returns in Form, Tops UAAP Scoring Charts

After missing the entire UAAP Season 87, Ateneo’s Ghanaian striker Kofi Agyei is back, and his return has completely changed the rhythm of the Blue Eagles’ attack.

“It feels amazing,” Agyei said. “Finally being able to wear the Ateneo jersey again and compete with the team is a blessing. I’ve been waiting for this moment for so long.”

The time away was difficult, especially watching from the sidelines while his teammates battled on without him. “The toughest part was not being able to help my teammates on the field,” he admitted. “Having to just watch and deal with the frustration of not being able to play was really challenging.”

When he finally stepped back onto the pitch, Agyei made sure to make it count, marking his comeback with a brace that sent a message to the rest of the league. “I just wanted to help the team and enjoy being back on the pitch. Scoring twice makes the comeback even more special.”

His return lifted the whole squad’s confidence.

“It boosted our confidence a lot,” he said. “We’ve been working hard as a group, and my return just adds to the momentum we’re building.”

Now leading the scoring charts in Season 88 with five goals so far, Agyei’s focus remains sharp.

“Knowing that this is my last season pushes me to give everything I have each game,” he said. “Every goal I score isn’t just for me. It’s a reminder of how far I’ve come and a step toward leaving a lasting legacy.”

Watching Kofi play is a real joy. He’s quick, powerful, and composed. He’s a striker with natural instincts and sharp timing. In the air, he’s a real threat. On the ground, his pace and movement make him a nightmare to defend. Like a true proper striker, he can smell the goal even before it comes.

When it comes to his approach in front of goal, Agyei relies on instinct.

“I trust my feeling and my timing,” he said. “I don’t overthink. I just focus on creating that one perfect moment where the keeper has no chance to react.”

Even as a Golden Boot contender, Agyei keeps his mindset simple.

“I try not to let the numbers or awards get into my head,” he said. “When I enjoy the game and play with freedom, that’s when the goals come naturally. Pressure doesn’t drive me, passion does.”

And when asked about the toughest defenders he’s faced this season, his confidence shined through: “Every defender has their own strengths, but honestly, I believe no one can stop me if I’m focused and playing my game. The only time they can stop me is when they foul me,” he said with a laugh.

For Kofi Agyei, this season is a return and a redemption. From months on the sidelines to reclaiming his spot as the UAAP’s most dangerous striker, he’s writing his comeback with every goal he scores.
