Kyle Perez Transfers to UE Red Warriors, Eyes UAAP Goals
Intriguing basketball talent Kyle Perez has officially committed to the University of the East (UE) Red Warriors, where he will undergo a year of residency before suiting up for UAAP Season 89. The 6-foot-4 wing confirmed the move, citing both academic and athletic priorities.
“I’ve decided to transfer because UE offers a much better overall opportunity for me — both academically and athletically,” Perez said. “The program I’m transferring into is a stronger fit for my field of study, and it provides the kind of academic focus I need to reach my long-term goals. At the same time, the basketball program is more competitive and better aligned with the level I want to play at, offering more opportunities for growth and exposure. It’s a move that supports both my education and my development as an athlete.”
Perez, originally from New Jersey, played high school basketball at Teaneck High School before moving on to Union College in New Jersey. In his lone NJCAA season (2022–23), he averaged 3.1 rebounds per game and contributed to several key wins. He then moved to the Philippines, initially committing to De La Salle University before transferring to Lyceum of the Philippines University, where he was set to join the Pirates in the NCAA.
Now, his transfer to UE signals a strategic pivot back to the UAAP, a league known for its elite competition and national spotlight. Perez brings a versatile skill set — athleticism, shooting touch, and physicality — to a Red Warriors program eager to rise in the standings.
Mentored by former PBA player Dale Singson, Perez has embraced the grind of adapting to Philippine basketball and is determined to make an impact once he becomes eligible to play. With three full years of eligibility beginning in Season 89, he has a clear window to grow into a core piece for UE.
Perez’s journey reflects a calculated move — not just to play, but to thrive on both academic and athletic fronts.
