Neil Owens Commits to FEU Tamaraws for One-and-Done Run

Filipino-American guard Neil Owens, who recently wrapped up an eventful NCAA Division III career, has committed to play for the Far Eastern University Tamaraws in UAAP Season 88. Acknowledged for his sharp shooting and calm under pressure, Owens will play one final collegiate season, bringing experience and scoring to a team looking to ascend.

“I’m very grateful for the opportunity to join FEU. It’s a real close-knit, family-like environment here and I appreciate how welcoming everyone has been,” Neil said. “Also appreciative of how trusting Coach Chambers has been of my abilities and I’m looking forward to playing for him. I truly believe he will put me in the best position to succeed.”

Owens played his final NCAA season with Claremont-Mudd-Scripps, where he averaged 11.3 points, 2.6 rebounds, and 2.6 assists per game. He shot 40.1 percent from three and 88.6 percent from the free-throw line, earning All-SCIAC Second Team honors in both 2024 and 2025. He now shifts to the UAAP, eligible as a Filipino, and is expected to contribute immediately.

His connection with FEU started when he met Coach Sean Chambers and the team during their offseason training visit to Sacramento. Owens joined their workouts, clicked with the staff, and saw a system where he could thrive.

With his quick release, strong decision-making, and leadership qualities, Owens addresses a key need for FEU. The Tamaraws, who are trying to establish a team identity, now add a reliable shotmaker who can stretch the floor and run the offense.

Owens brings a well-rounded skill set: efficient scoring, floor spacing, poise, and veteran presence. In his final year at CMS, he posted a 31-point performance and hit a game-winning step-back jumper in a separate clutch showing. These moments speak to his ability to deliver when it matters most.

With Owens in the lineup, FEU’s roster gains balance and firepower heading into Season 88. His presence adds polish and experience that could help push the Tamaraws deeper into the postseason.

“I’m looking forward to playing for Coach Chambers. I truly believe he will put me in the best position to succeed,” Owens said.

The UAAP will be watching closely. So will fans eager to see what the Filipino-American playmaker can do on home soil.
