Richmond Casiño Commits to Letran After UE Departure

Richmond Casiño has changed course on his collegiate future, opting to remain in the NCAA rather than move to the UAAP.

After initially transferring to the University of the East, the young guard has de-committed and will instead join the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Knights. The decision was confirmed by both Casiño and his manager, Anthony Brodett of Phenom Sports Management.

Casiño explained that his choice ultimately came down to fit, trust in the coaching staff, and the environment he experienced firsthand.

“I chose to join Letran because I believe in the program that Coach Allen and the coaching staff are building. I really like his vision and the way he treats his players,” he said.

The guard added that his early exposure to the team’s system made a strong impression on him.

“I felt it right away on my first day of practice how he pushes you to reach your full potential and that’s exactly the kind of environment I want to be in to grow.”

Letran’s long-standing reputation in Philippine college basketball also played a key role in the decision.

“Letran has a strong basketball culture and a winning tradition, and I’m really grateful for the opportunity to be part of that. At the same time, I trust Coach Allen and the rest of the coaching staff to guide me,” Casiño shared.

He also acknowledged the influence of his support system throughout the process.

“Coach Brody also played a big role in helping me decide to join Letran, and I’m thankful for his guidance.”

Casiño will serve a residency year in 2026 before becoming eligible to suit up for the Knights. Once cleared to play, he is expected to have four full years of eligibility, giving Letran a long-term piece to develop in its backcourt.

The move keeps Casiño within the NCAA, where he previously suited up for Lyceum of the Philippines University, and places him in a program known for its disciplined system and championship pedigree.

For Letran, the addition signals another step in building under Coach Allen Ricardo, while for Casiño, it represents a commitment to development in a system he believes will maximize his potential.
