Richmond San Diego Commits to CSB Blazers

The CSB Blazers have secured another promising young talent after Richmond San Diego officially committed to continue his basketball journey in Taft.

The commitment was confirmed by CALABARZON Heroes head coach Jasper Magno, who has closely witnessed San Diego’s development through the grassroots ranks.

The highly regarded guard now joins a Benilde program that has become one of the NCAA’s premier destinations for rising prospects looking to develop both on and off the court.

For San Diego, the move also carries a personal connection.

Among the players he looks up to is Jhomel Ancheta, one of the prominent alumni of College of San Benildo-Rizal (CoSB-R). Ancheta’s journey from the Benilde-Rizal community to the collegiate landscape has become an inspiration for many young players coming through the school.

Having spent his senior high school years at San Benildo before committing to the Blazers, San Diego grew up seeing firsthand what was possible for a player from the Benilde system. Now, he gets the opportunity to continue that journey by taking the next step with the Blazers.

The commitment comes after a breakout campaign during the 2026 Palarong Pambansa, where San Diego emerged as one of CALABARZON’s most dependable players and floor generals.

His biggest statement came in the semifinals against CLRAA, where a trip to the championship round was on the line.

With CALABARZON needing someone to settle the offense and control the pace, San Diego delivered one of the best performances of the tournament. He finished with 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds while earning Player of the Game honors and helping send CALABARZON into the finals.

Throughout the game, San Diego served as the engine behind CALABARZON’s offense. He consistently put teammates in scoring positions, pushed the pace whenever opportunities opened up, and made the right reads against CLRAA’s defense. Whenever defenders collapsed on him, he found the open man. When defenses gave him space, he attacked confidently.

That performance showcased what many coaches have appreciated about his game for years: his basketball IQ. That maturity has become one of the defining traits of his development.

Those qualities should fit naturally within a Benilde program known for emphasizing player development, structure, and decision-making under head coach Charles Tiu.

The Blazers have built a reputation for helping players maximize their strengths while refining the finer details of their game, a system that has produced NCAA MVPs, champions, and professional players in recent years.

For a young player who grew up looking up to Jhomel Ancheta, the opportunity now becomes much more real.

The next chapter of Richmond San Diego’s basketball story will be written in Taft.
