Travis Roberts Commits to Ateneo for UAAP Season 89
Travis Roberts has committed to play in UAAP Season 89 with Ateneo, his representation confirmed to ALL-STAR Magazine.
Roberts, a 6-foot-6 guard from Waldorf, Maryland, will join the Ateneo Blue Eagles for a one-and-done stint as a masters student after completing his NCAA career in the United States. The move was confirmed by his manager Jonathon Mines of Rise Sports Management, who said the decision centered on both development and long-term national team aspirations.
“For Travis, this decision was about fit, Ateneo’s culture, expectations, and history of developing and producing high level players – some currently at the Gilas National Team level. This is the ultimate goal for Travis and the coaching staff made it clear this was the right place for Travis to grow as a player and as a person,” said Mines, who also represents national team big man AJ Edu.
Roberts will arrive in Manila after a multi-stop college career that included Jacksonville State, Marist, and most recently Alcorn State. At 6-foot-6 with length on the wing, Roberts has built a reputation as a versatile perimeter defender and developing scoring option capable of playing both guard spots.
His college journey began at Jacksonville State, where he showed early flashes as a freshman, including a 15-point performance against ETSU. Roberts later transferred to Marist, appearing in 30 games during the 2024–25 season while carving out a role as a rotational wing. He most recently played at Alcorn State, where he continued to provide depth on the perimeter and experience for a SWAC program competing in the 2025–26 season.
For Roberts, the move to Ateneo represents more than just another stop. It brings him closer to a long-term goal he has openly discussed: building a connection to Philippine basketball and eventually competing at the highest level in the region.
In a previous feature with ALL-STAR Magazine, Mines spoke about Roberts’ growing interest in the Philippines and the possibility of one day representing the country internationally. That vision helped guide the decision to explore opportunities in the UAAP, one of Asia’s most competitive and passionate collegiate leagues.
Ateneo, meanwhile, continues its tradition of attracting high-level talent to Katipunan. The Blue Eagles have produced several players who have gone on to become key contributors for the Gilas Pilipinas national team, including the likes of SJ Belangel, Angelo Kouame, Dwight Ramos, and Kai Sotto, among others.
Within the program, Roberts is expected to bring size and versatility to the Blue Eagles’ wing rotation. His long frame, combined with his experience in multiple NCAA systems, gives Ateneo a player capable of defending multiple positions while stretching the floor offensively.
For Roberts, the season in Manila is expected to serve as both a competitive challenge and an opportunity to immerse himself in Philippine basketball culture while continuing to develop his game.
If the fit proves as strong as both sides believe, the Ateneo stint could become a meaningful step in Roberts’ path toward his larger goal of playing at the national team level.
