UAAP Rookie Profile: Alex Konov of the DLSU Green Archers

DLSU’s 6-foot-7 rookie Alex Konov revealed he is looking forward to play with UP and UST for different reasons. Konov also talked about the reason behind his switch to ‘47’ and his love for video games, especially Pokemon.

Q: Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Alex: My name is Alex Konov, I’m 18 years old, and I come from New Jersey on the East Coast, in the United States. I’m 6’7 and I play forward in De La Salle University.

Q: Can you also share with us your foot size and your favorite kicks?

Alex: I’m size 12, occasionally a 12 ½ or 13. My favorite shoes right now is probably either Dunks or Revenge X Storm off the court and on the court, probably, Kobe 6.

Q: If you could describe yourself in one word, what would it be?

Alex: I would say committed. I think I tend to commit to what I do. Also just like unwavering, cause whatever it takes, I try to do it, I get it done.

Q: Outside of basketball, do you have any other hobbies?

Alex:  I love playing video games, listening to music, and having a good time with my friends.

Q: What games do you play?

Alex: PS5, single-player games like Hogwarts legacy, Cyberpunk. With my friends I like to play 2K and Fortnite.

Q: You said that you like music too, what’s your favorite song?

Alex: Right now, probably Magic Johnson by ian just because of how catchy it is.

Q: Do you have any fun fact or hidden talent you want to share with your fans?

Alex: I also play a lot of Nintendo, especially Pokemon. I also love coding, even though I’m not majoring in that, Computer Science, I still like to watch videos about that.

Q: If you’re a pokemon, who would you be?

Alex: Man, that’s hard. I think I’m gonna go with Gengar, just because I really like that Pokemon. I also even have it as my phone case!

Q: Let’s talk a little about romance. What is your ideal first date?

Alex: An ideal first date for me would just be any day with my girlfriend. Shout out to Megan Elizabeth Stanley, she’s basically my wife. Just going out for chipotle with her, going out to the movies, getting some ice cream, we also occasionally go on really nice pizza dates.

Q: Who are your inspirations in life?

Alex: I would say Kobe Bryant for sure is one of them. I’m a big Kobe guy. And my parents, just them letting me come here, and letting me be who I am, supporting my basketball journey.

Q: Would you say that Kobe Bryant is your GOAT?

Alex: I would say Michael Jordan, but Kobe is definitely up there. He’s a great player I would say he’s only one or two below Michael Jordan in terms of GOAT, but he’s definitely fun to watch.

Q: Can you also share with us the reason behind your basketball jersey number?

Alex: So, this season, I’m actually gonna be wearing 47. I’ve usually worn 24 in high school and middle school, but I decided to switch it up this season. It basically just comes from my name, my initials being AK and then with 47. I thought that would be really cool. I also really like Andrei Kirilenko as a player, who is in the NBA, and he was AK-47.

Q: Which UAAP Team are you most excited to go against?

Alex: Most excited to play either UP or UST. UP were the runner ups last year, and they’re just a great team. I coud see them making it all the way to the finals this year. UST just because Zain’s on it.

Q: Apart from yourself, who do you think might win Rookie of the Year?

Alex: Gotta have to go with the popular answer, Francis Veejay Pre! Just cause of the fact that the guy is a great dude. He plays the game in the right way and he just works really hard, you know. Being on the same Gilas team as him, and him not getting any minutes, to seeing his transformation now is really incredible.

Q: If you’re a pizza topping, what would you be and why?

Alex: I’d be a meatball, just because it’s my favorite topping on pizza. I think it’s the best topping.
