Fantasy Series #1: The New York Knicks
The New York Knicks celebrate a historic and iconic championship run, yet the offseason waits for no one, and even the champs have to stay sharp and fresh.
The Fantasy series looks at the featured team’s season statistical performance and explores offseason possibilities.
2025-2026 Key Season Stats
Jalen Brunson – 26 points per game, 7 assists per game, 3 rebounds per game
Karl-Anthony Towns – 20 points per game, 12 rebounds per game, 1.2 blocks per game
OG Anunoby – 16.7 points per game, 5 rebounds per game, 2 assists and 1.6 steals per game
The New York Knicks have won it all this season. The Emirates NBA Cup championship last December, and most recently, the NBA championship. Both championships were won at the expense of the mighty San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks and the entire city of New York are still celebrating right now. The players are on a cool media run, OG Anunoby is dazed, and Mikal Bridges is doing drunk Instagram lives. It feels good to be a part of the Knicks organization right now.
Except that in a few days, the boys will realize that they now have a target on their backs next season, and everyone, including the 7 foot 5 alien that they have scorned, has the Knickerbockers in their crosshairs.
The Knicks cannot afford to relax and run with the same crew next season if they want to stay at the top of the mountain. The Oklahoma City Thunder’s run this season was a cautionary tale–defending champs; excellent, deep roster; lots of good draft picks; and a young, talented core who seem to be peaking at the right time. Everyone was awarding OKC the Larry O’Brien trophy three weeks into the season, until they got punched in the mouth by the Spurs a couple of times.
So what do the Knicks do this offseason? Mitchell Robinson (9 rebounds per game, one of the best offensive rebounders this season), a contributing piece of this championship run, is now entering unrestricted free agency. There are also rumors of a Karl-Anthony Towns trade.
Should the Knicks then look for a big man who can play 5 and 4?
Jalen Brunson and the ‘Nova boys will still be together, and OG too. It will be interesting to see what the front office does to keep the roster fresh.
