Jordan Brand Launches Air Jordan 40
Jordan Brand has officially announced the release of the Air Jordan 40, the latest entry in its legendary line of basketball sneakers, designed to meet the performance demands of today’s top athletes. Set to launch on July 12, the shoe marks a major step forward in both innovation and design, while paying tribute to four decades of Air Jordan history.
Described by the company as a “definitive performance basketball shoe,” the Air Jordan 40 introduces a groundbreaking combination of two Nike technologies: full-length ZoomX foam and a full Zoom Strobel unit. The pairing is a first for any NIKE, Inc. sneaker, aimed at delivering top-tier responsiveness, support, and energy return for players at every position.

“This is an incredible moment for our brand as we define the next era of greatness alongside the next generation of hoopers,” said Sarah Mensah, President of Jordan Brand. “The Air Jordan 40 represents the future.”
ZoomX is Nike’s lightest and most responsive foam, originally developed for elite runners and now repurposed for the basketball court. Coupled with the Zoom Strobel—Nike’s most responsive cushioning placed directly underfoot—the Air Jordan 40 is engineered to optimize energy return and quick directional movement.

Beyond performance, the shoe also leans into Jordan Brand’s hallmark blend of athletic functionality and iconic style. Chief Design Officer Jason Mayden emphasized the dual focus: “This shoe helps you get buckets and look good while doing it. It perfectly embodies the essence of effortless versatility.”

The silhouette includes several nods to the Air Jordan legacy. Design elements reference previous models, while the shoe’s logo and traction pattern incorporate 40-degree angles in honor of the brand’s 40th anniversary. Premium materials, 360-degree containment webbing, and a unique outsole built for precision footwork round out the construction.
Orlando Magic star and Jordan Brand athlete Paolo Banchero is among those set to debut the shoe on court. “It’s truly a shoe built for today’s style of basketball, with the innovative edge that comes from being a member of the Jordan Family,” he said.
The Air Jordan 40 will be released in nine different colorways throughout the year. It will be available beginning July 12 at Jordan.com and select retailers.
