UP dominates Ateneo in Battle of Katipunan opener

UAAP Season 87 opens with the battle of Katipunan, and the UP Fighting Maroons took it all the way to win 61-77 versus Ateneo Blue Eagles.

The impressive game had JD Cagulangan pushing the gap to a 16-pt lead, with strong attacks from Francis Lopez and rookie Jacob Bayla powering through.

Cagulangan ended the game with 17 points, 12 assists, and 7 rebounds. Lopez got 14 points, 3 assists, and 6 rebounds. Rookie Bayla marked his UP debut with 7 points, 2 assists, and 3 rebounds.

The UP Fighting Maroons is set to face the UE Red Warriors on September 14, Saturday.
