SIBOL Settles for Bronze in Honor of Kings at Asian Games
SIBOL secured another bronze medal for the Philippines in Honor of Kings at the 20th Asian Games on Monday at Aichi Sky Expo in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan.
The Philippine squad earned the bronze after losing to China, 0-2, in the best-of-three semifinals.
Despite falling short of the finals, SIBOL head coach Gerald “Tgee” Gelacio said he was proud of his players for delivering a medal for the country.
“Sobrang proud ko sa players ko kasi nakakuha pa rin kami ng medal, mahirap din yung nakalaban namin sa semifinals, which is yung top contender,” Gelacio told POC Media.
The bronze also marked a podium finish for Gelacio and the Blacklist International core in what he described as their final run together.
“Sobrang happy namin na nagsama sama kami dito and yung last ride namin is nakakuha pa kami ng medal,” Gelacio added.
The Asian Games campaign reunited the former Blacklist International core following the team’s disbandment last August.
Gelacio and the players eventually went their separate ways, with the members joining different teams in the Philippine Kings League (PKL). Their reunion under the SIBOL banner gave the former teammates another opportunity to compete together on the international stage.
